Default Hazard light button stuck "on"

Used the hazard blinker today and it stuck on. A friend used a small pick to lift the button back into off. It seems there is a spring/switch/dohikky(I am a professional engineer and can use tech talk like that)
Anyone else run into this and,if so, what did you do(other than "don't punch that button again).

Pull the thang a ma jiggie's fuse . Don't put the fuse back in until the muffler bearings get rattled or the kanuter valve won't null to equilibrium in it's sequencing schedule .

Thanks , Parker P.E. Ch.E. , Penelope's Engineer

Don't press the red button!

YES - and others have also reported it but not for some time.

My solution was to remove the switch, pop the cover and clean the sides. They usually stick from not being used rather than a broken return spring.

Yelp, mine stuck on a couple weeks ago, first time I had used it in several years. I punched it a few times and it finally shut off by I self after I gave up and started diving home. Have not tried it again!

My hazard flasher switch has been getting stuck in the on position for several years now. I keep a small penknife in the console to pry it out on the (very) rare occasion that I have to use it. I just have not been motivated enough to remove the panel to get at it in order to clean it. Odd, though, that particular switch seems to be the only one that gets stuck like that, or at least the one that's reported most frequently.

The sticking switch has been a reported problem wuite a few times on the X100 and the X308. I have had success spraying them with Electronic cleaner and excersiziing them on a off a few cycles to clear it up.

Can someone point to a tutorial for removing the panel? I've looked everywhere... well obviously not in the right place. I need to replace a light bulb for the fog light switch as well as freeing up the flasher switch.

Much obliged!

The hazard light switch on mine used to get stuck quite regularly as I use it once a week on the average. When it gets stuck, the best solution I found to free it would be to push the side of the switch horizontally towards the centre of the car. To avoid it getting stuck, I activate the switch by pushing very lightly on the top edge instead of pushing squarely in the centre of the switch face, which greatly reduces the chance of the switch getting stuck; followed by another light push on the switch's top edge to disengage.

Try it and let me know if that works for you.

Mine has stuck up before and "exercising" the button for a dozen cycles or so seems to have cleared it up. I didn't pull it or clean it and when it would stick I just used a small pen knife blade to very lightly pull up on it from the edge. Once you don't need the blade, just cycle it for a few more times. At least that worked for me. I guess how dirty the button is could require the use of cleaner or disassembly.

And I love that phraseology, "exercising" the button. It is so perfectly descriptive! Well said Avern.

The two (2) post above are great and descriptive. In addition to thier methods, I took a Std. Feeler Gauge and began with the .012 blade. Worked it around the the Hazard and DCS switches (all 4 sides) on my 2003 XK8. Then a progression up through .022 ensured there was no debris causing the hanging. The pressing of the button in at the upper portion near center seemed to work best for me also. Tried cleaning with electronics cleaner, lube with silicone and grease less lube, but nothing helped. Did the physical cleaning and all is well.

This little trick worked fine but I managed to find a new (pre-loved) switchpack at a good price so replaced the lot and took the opportunity to replace ALL the centre console switch bulbs at the same time
Beware that the hazard switch can not be replaced as a singleton you need to replace the entire switchpack.

I had this problem a few years ago and don't recall where I found the solution. You have to get to the back of the switch panel. All I did was slightly loosen the mounting screws. After that I have had no issues with the DSC or hazard button sticking. I was prepared to purchase the complete switch bar but I was very happy this worked.

Thanks. Great idea, and it solved my problem. Guess I'm adding "Check hazard switch operation" to my yearly maintenance checklist.

Just had this happen to me (2003 X100 Coupe). I accidentally hit the switch while trying to adjust the heat. Luckily I was only a mile or so away from home. I ended up prying it up with the tip of a knife and it cycled off. Hope I didn't damage the switch. Might try the electronic cleaner.
