Is that Roman Bronze? Only available for MY2001, AFAIK.
Yes. Never saw before.
I guess another tensioner victim? Such a shame. What are your plans?
Guy said was reving and locked up. He wasn’t much of an engine expert.
Not sure. Maybe LS swap, if so manual. Maybe just used engine. Is there any manual you can connect to a AJ27 that’s not $$$?
You can buy a running 1999 to 2003 X308 sedan (AJ27) for CHEAP and just get the engine/gearbox out and scrap the rest.
I have the AJ27 and gearbox in a running 2001 XJ8 that is a SALVAGE vehicle (ugly) but runs/drives fine.
The XK8 would be a better use of the powertrain.
If I found a used engine from an XJR or XKR is it possible to put in with reasonable effort into an XK8? I have a Merc transmission and ECU and TCU from a 2001 XJR. Would need another fuel pump which doesn't seem to difficult since I assume the tanks are otherwise the same. I know the gauge pack is different. I think the radiator has an extra house. Don't know if the wire looms are the same. Seems it would be economical to make the same loom regardless if NA or SC. Sure need an XKR drive shaft.
I also have a 2002 XJR that a customer brought to me for repair about 10 years ago. His wife blew the top RAD hose and kept driving!!!!!
He found a used engine in Georgia and then lost interest so he just left the car here.(been sitting 10 years)
I also have a 2004 XKR 4.2 SuperCharged engine with a bad/faulty engine harness.
I thought about finding a 1997 to 1999 XK8 and swap the AJ34 engine block with AJ27 heads and M112 Eaton, then use the 2002 XJR engine harness and ECM, TCM and ABS.
There are no XKRs earlier than 2000MY in North America so it would be DIFFERENT!

Don't know. Left at 5 am Sunday to get from Central Florida and got home at midnight. No chance to investigate. Battery dead when picked up so did try to start. Oil on dipstick not chocolate milkshake and coolant reservoir clear.
Here are all the codes. Battery totally dead. Hooked up to jumpers just for power to run. Didn’t try to crank. Last time I jumped a dead battery XK8, blue out instrument panel.
With a strong healthy battery, most of those codes will clear and not recur. Then you can focus on what's left. Have you tried turning the crankshaft manually?
I would be prepared to re-power it, but would first check if the crankshaft turns. If yes, pull the plugs and valve covers, look at the camshafts. If THEY are turning, pull the plugs an poke a borescope in each of the cylinders to look.
Remember also that a transmission failure can cause the engine to stop.

+1
Many are either phantoms or symptomatic of low battery.
These would be more of a concern to me as they are camshaft-related:
1384/1396 (potentially cams out of phase with the crank) crop up sometimes after tensioner repairs (there are no glow plugs in this engine!). I'd lift the cam covers and turn the motor over gently by hand - if there's no more obvious damage - to see if all the cam flats line up.
