Default Memory functions exclude the seat and radio?

I've set the memory buttons for the mirrors and steering wheel, but it seems like that's all these are working for. Shouldn't it move the seat back into the set position and radio back to the preferred station/mode? Didn't really see anything on this in the search.

yes it should set the seat memory

but definitely NOT the radio.

memory function is only for mirrors, steering wheel and seats.

Thanks- any reasons for the seats not following orders? They work great otherwise.

The position sensor potentometers in the seats are not very reliable over the long term. Never bothered to do it on this car, but I suspect cleaning and lubing them with contact cleaner might restore them for a while.

Here is a TSB on the memory system.

Default Correct seat module?

There could also be a small chance that a previous owner replaced the seat module. If they used the passenger side seat module part in the drivers side, I think it would make the drivers memory inoperable. Just a suggestion to check the part number of the module if you have access to it.

I have found this to be a chronic problem since owning the car. In my case it does not matter too much since I am the only one who drives the car and seats, mirrors, steering column rarely need adjusting. But occasionally I will test out the memory recall and see what happens. Many times upon hitting Memory 1 the seat will move into some amazingly awkward position that would only suit Quasimodo. I then rearrange things to where they are right and hit the store button and then Memory 1 and the setting stick for a while. But then if sometime later I hit 1 the seat ends up in a berserk position.

I brought this to the attention of the dealer once who said it was probably the battery. I replaced the battery and it worked better for a while but not consistently. As WhiteXKR pointed out there are likely some contacts or potentiometers that need cleaning.

Does anyone have a handy DIY with photos that shows what is involved?

Thanks,

Doug

Duly noted- yes more of a DIY on what contacts need to be cleaned would be a great help. I don't think there's a thread on this yet, glad I'm not the only one with it.

Once in a blue moon, my wife's XK8's driver seat memory buttons will not respond when they are pressed. Drive the car, then by the next drive cycle they magically work again. Perhaps the electrical contacts do indeed need cleaning. I currently chalk it up to the car being haunted. These things love to throw spurious codes and warnings, particularly the later models....

Has anyone had a problem with the #1 memory position working perfectly but #2 will not? Both have been working until recently, now #2 will not retain memory no matter how many times I have reset it.

Ditto for mine. Next drive cycle makes it better or I can manually move the wheel with the steering column adjustment and that usually brings the memory button back to life. Seat, steering wheel and mirrors all work (when button does) or individually using the manual switches.

As Jon89 says...haunted. Probably the ghost of Lucas past.

I had a very strange problem with these memory switches a few weeks back. They have always worked fine for me and I use them when my steering wheel gets stuck and will not tilt down. A few weeks ago though when I would press the #1 button to get the steering wheel into position, the mirror would start tilting up. This went on for a week or so and then started working normally. This was during a period when we were having heavy rains almost every day and I suspect that it was the result of something getting wet that didn't like it.

Having similar problems with our 2006; Memory 1 does not move the seat, but Memory 2 does. And once the remote key fob would not unlock the passenger door....not sure if this is related or not.
Have replaced the car battery, but no change with the Memory buttons.

Is there a module that needs replaced?

Go carefully through document 501-51 above (post #4). If just one memory is still out it could be the button or the seat module.

I should have searched more before I posted; I read about the seat module, cleaning the contacts, repairing the circuit board, etc.

I will pull the seat module out this weekend and give it a good "once over"...maybe even a "twice-over"..!!!

This forum is great with all the information available.

Thanks!
