Default Remote programming and read distances

There is a procedure to program a remote involving flashing the headlamps etcetera and it works fine. I have an issue with two remotes and if one is programmed and working, It stops working if you program the second one. You can always get one to work but never both at the same time. Tried having the programmed om far away when programming the other but that did not work.
Am I missing something?

Also, both remotes need to be next to the car to work. If you are more than a couple of feet away, they don't. Both have new batteries.
Ideas?
Thanks

You are aware that you need to program all remote FOBS at the same time ? 5 lock or unlock button presses to complete the procedure ? If you only have two remotes that is 3 presses on one remote + 2 presses on the other

@Stumpy I tried the way you mentioned and now both remotes work but still only 2 feet away from the car.
Could the receiver in the car be causing something like this?
Thanks

The receiver antenna is in different location for the coupe vs the convertible.
The coax connection at the SLCM can also be loose/faulty

Under the right interior 'CAP' aft of the 'B' pillar and forward of the subwoofer enclosure.

@michaelh I believe I found the antenna. The other end of the coax cable by the fuse box was tight but I cleaned in anyway.
It looks like the other end of the coax is buried deep down under somewhere. I followed the antenna down as far as I could without taking more stuff apart. Found no connection point yet.
Is that end connection accessed from the trunk or where?
Thanks

The SLCM is in the boot fuse/relay box behind the battery.

Okay, I know where that is in the trunk. Is there another connector at the antenna or is it a one piece unit all the way to the coax connector under the fuse box in trunk?
