Default Struggling to refit the dipstick tube

Just refitted the LH cam cover on my 2005 x100 XKR. I am struggling to find the hole hidden at the bottom of the engine block, in which to fit the bottom end of the oil dip stick tube. Tried using a camera scope. Anyone have any bright ideas or guidance? thanks

Unfortunately, the bright idea is too late. If you hadn't removed the dipstick in the first place it would guide the tube into the hole.

It's not too late to use the dipstick - put it down the tube and see if that helps you find the hole. You will get it back in eventually (that's what she said).

Thanks guys. Will try a fibre glass electricians threading rod into the hole first as will be able to slide tube over. Failing that, aim camera cable straight into hole and slide tube over iphone usb end of the cable and down into hole. Will let you know how i get on.
LHS when sat in car.

You can't see the dipstick hole because it is behind the PAS/AC compressor mount bracket.

In the post at the link below I have a photo of the left side of the engine block showing how the dipstick tube fits in the recess formed by the power steering pump bracket that Bob mentioned. If you can get the end of the tube into that recess, it is usually not too difficult to find the hole by feel:

Cheers,

I’m adding this task to my list of things I hope to never have to do.

Well, I finally succeeded. After several attempts trying to replace the dipstick tube from above, I followed the advice to remove the oil sump pan and thread some curtain wire through the hole from the bottom up. It was actually very straightforward and I would recommend this method to anyone who has had the misfortune of removing the tube without leaving a guide in place. Grinding a notch out of the oil dipstick tube lug was also an excellent piece of advice. Thanks all.
