Default 2017 Chipped windshield: Please educate me

I was driving to work the other day and a rock hit my windshield while I was only going about 15mph. I immediately had a glass repair company come out repair it, but it's still very noticeable. Unfortunately, it's pretty close to my line of sight when I'm driving. I guess that I'll have to get the windshield replaced. I have a 2017 F-Type S convertible. I'd like to explore options other than the factory to see if competition can save me some money. What do I need to know before getting quotes?

What is your Comprehensive deductible? Would your ins. co. replace it because the chip distracts/interferes with your line of sight?

My comprehensive deductible is $1,000, so I've never found that windshields are worth submitting to my insurance company. I've also never had one that would approach the cost of this one.

Wow too bad, I've got $50 deductible Comprehensive on all our cars. It was only a few bux more. My other exotic runs $2000 for windshield replacement.

Is that price a 'non-insurance' figure? 'Cause I know that glass shops quote lower prices if you tell them you are paying without insurance company involvement.

The guy that I spoke with at a local glass shop said that the least expensive option was $800 for the windshield plus about $200 for labor. He said there were also options for a heated windshield and something else to do with video. He didn't really sound too confident, so that's why I figured I'd ask here. I want to get the least expensive possible, but not at the expense of quality or getting the incorrect type. Yes, it was a non-insurance guesstimate.

We have a $0 glass deductible in MA, I think so that people won't hold off on replacing damaged windshields. We, of course, pay for it other ways. Just had a new windshield installed on the XE due to a rock. They had to get an OEM one, which I think they said was only $500ish, even with the IR coating.

Yeah but it was $2500. And I don't remember him saying where he was.

I just looked on the Pilkington Glass website, didn't find any reference to Jaguar F-Type or LR. They DO have glass for a selection of older models.

A lot of policies particularly in the West have a "Glass Rider" that provides for a $0 deductible. Check before you do anything.

I have had normal chips repaired and the result has been invisible. Make sure the fix is the best available.

After that its just shopping around. The dealer will sub it out anyway.

Not sure what your coverage is, but you don't have full glass coverage? Deductibles are typically on collision. I'm not an insurance expert but you should verify your coverage.

Just had the same thing happen to me, only four months after I had a new windshield put in. OEM Jaguar replacement (Pilkington not Fuyao) ran $1,312.80 installed (Safelite). $1,100.00 for the glass alone. Just a surface chip this second time and out of my line of sight, but my eyes go right to it now that the rest is new. The rock that caused it seemed to come from no where, like a meteorite

Edit: Wanted to include that I paid $0.00 to have the new windshield put in. Filed the claim thru my insurance co. They hit me with a $150 increase in my semi-annual premium though when it renewed last month, so there's that which you can expect as well.

+1 on all comments suggesting you contact your insurance co. I have always maintained a $1000 comp/coll. coverage and have never spent more than $100 on a windshield replacement or $0 on a chip repair. Best to go with OEM if covered.

Agreeing with most of the replies here. I have a special exception in my policy for glass. If they can repair it there is zero deductible and if not it is greatly reduced from the usual for comprehensive. There are also conditions on that, and one I remember is that they aren't required to try a repair first if the damage is in the driver's line of sight for normal driving.
