Default Vin decode!!

I have recently bought a 1999 Jaguar XJ8 3.2 Ltr with 75,000 miles on the clock. The vin decoders I have looked at don't seem to work. In particular digits 5-J and 10-C. The VIN is :- SAJJJALG3CH878208.
Thanks
Bill W

Probably another case of using a USA/North American VIN decoder on a non-USA car.

I'm pretty sure someone recently posted info on decoding non-USA VINs. Someone will come along soon and point you to it

Cheers

Try FordEtis home page
Select the Vehicle tab and use the VIN entry.

Hi Jagv8'
The FordEtis gives a translation of the vin code, which is accurate, but doesn't define the digits as I would have liked it to do. Thanks for your help.

The digits are tough because they change somewhat depending on year, make, country, the phase of the moon, etc. I think even the wikipedia article is incomplete.

The December 2001 XJ8 I have translates fine, but somewhere, earlier than this none of the decoders work completely. As I said earlier it is the digits 5 and 10 that don't translate .
I will try some of the Ford tables, if I can find them, and see if they are any better !!!

Thanks

I don't know about the X308, but I thought that the X300 had the "real VIN" back near the battery on a label?

At a gues you mean VCATS, which is not a VIN and best not confused with a VIN.

I had exactly the same with my VIN code on a 1998 V8, ended up ringing Jaguar direct who were enormously helpful. They only need the last 5 or 6 numeric digits from my VIN. Gave me everything about my car down to original Trim, year and month of build, all you need to know.
