Hi Guys

I cannot get the Cartridge that holds the 6 CD's to Eject from the CD Player in the Boot/Trunk of 'Carmen' my 1995 XJS Facelift

When I hit the eject button on the CD Player in the Boot/Trunk the Indicator on the CD Player will light up, followed by lots of Whirring but the CD Cartridge won't eject

Any ideas?

 

Try pushing and HOLDING the EJECT button for the cycle through procedure.

You can insert a thin plastic or metal blade of some sort to release the magazine.
If there is a CD stuck between the magazine and spin plate, you will likely need to disassemble the unit.
I have used a hemostat to work the stuck CD back into the magazine.

I didn't have the jaguar trunk CD player, rather a JVC aftermarket unit. It had similar problems sometimes and as I remember there was a small hole that you could push a thin wire like a paperclip into to manually eject the CD / magazine. It had other problems so I quit using it a few years ago, so the details are a bit hazy in my memory, but perhaps your unit has something along the same lines.

It's been years since I repaired one of these, but if it were me, I would pull the cover off just in case a CD is stuck out.

Depending on model there could be rollers and belts or gears that drive the load mechanism, check the condition and make sure it hasn't thrown a belt.

There are also micro switches so the unit knows when the cartridge is loaded, check these

That sounds like a good thing to try

 

As someone above said, all computer CD modules have a pinhole about 10mm below the drawer and about 3cm in from the RHS, to release the drawer mechanically. A paperclip will do for an actuator. But whether a CD magazine has this, I have no idea.

Life got in the way of looking today but as you say there must be an ejection hole in that CD Player somewhere

 

I have been thinking ( a dangerous past time I know).

The CD changers I have repaired (many moons ago when they were new technology BTW) did not have a manual eject function, the reason is the CD drive moves up and down in order to load CD's. and usually the CD does not load/unload correctly leaving the CD cartridge tray out, this prevents the CD cartridge from being unloaded, a manual unload could damage the CD tray inside the cartridge.

Open the CD door and look down the RH side of the cartridge you should be able to see if any of the trays are out.

My guess is that a CD has not unloaded back into the cartridge. You will need to pull the covers off, the load mechanism is most likely a small motor with worm and gear, you should be able to turn this by hand and remove your good CD's.

Once you have the CD's out we will look at diagnosing the problem.
