I intend to look at an 07 xk convertible this weekend and am hoping that someone can assist me with any jaguar specific items that I should look for or ask about.
I have the VIN and have done a carfax check and intend to contact Jaguar NA for maintenance info.
And I know to look for the usual signs of leakage and wear but if you have any other specific pointers I would be humbly grateful
BTW It has 73k miles so any heads up on major maintenance requirements in the future would also be helpful

Consider room in your budget for servicing all the fluids, including:

-Transmission oil pan and filter (sold as a kit)
-Brake Fluid
-Differential

Make sure AC line drain is fixed. Check paint thickness and bushings on control arms.

What methodology is used to check paint thickness?

A meter is used or bring it by a good body shop and $20 should do it.

 

Book it in for a main dealer pre purchase inspection, about$200 they will check it all out and you get a report, don't buy one without one! Both my jags had them best money I ever spent they can even check your paint. If the dealer you are looking at buying from won't let you have one done walk away. I spent nearly $600 on inspections on cars I thought where good and drove well before buying my XJR. My wife's XK inspection came back clean as a whistle and was the first XK we looked at lucky really.

 

PPI with a Jaguar dealership got sure. They will know what to look for.

If you're still in-the-hunt on that '07 convertible, you may want to check the seal of the rear window to the outer shell. It should be tight and clean; if it looks like it is pulling away (or rolling-off) the window--and you can see a fair amount of flat black adhesive residue--you will be more assuredly looking at a new top. ($4,500+)
