Engine swap
Hi,
I’m new to the forum, so apologies in advance if my post/question doesn’t follow standard protocol.
im looking for advice on an engine swap. I’m looking to take a 4.0 liter motor from a 2002 Jaguar XJ8 and install it into a 1999 XK8, replacing the original 4.0 liter motor. Would this be a pretty straightforward swap, and is there anything tricky that i would need to anticipate in making this swap? Was wondering if the engine management electronics would also need to be swapped or if the 1999 XK8 electronics would be okay with the 2002 motor from the XJ8. The transmission in the XJ8 would not be used.
Thanks, in advance for any assistance/advice.

ANY AJ27 engine will be a 'drop-in' replacement.
Correction about 1999 to 2002 XK8 (NOT 1999 to 2003) The 2003 was the intro of the 4.2 liter engine!!!!!!!!
Stick to 4.0 engines to keep it simple.

I suspect this could be the start of a whole series of questions on the engine swap and parts compatability across the model years. It will be easier to follow and a much more useful information source if you continue this as a project thread and keep all the discussion in one place.
I know from reading posts by others who have gone a similar route in the past, some things will be so much simpler than you could ever have hoped and other seemingly minor details will have you tearing your hair out.
Good luck.

Perhaps the original post was misread. The XK8 is a 1999. Here is the original post again.

If they are both AJ27 engines, then there's nothing complicated - assuming you don't consider an engine swap complicated, of course! It's a direct, like-for-like swap, so no need to change the electronics over.
I may have caused that confusion in post #2 when I made the error of referring to the car as a 1998. Not sure why I misread that, but I apologize for any confusion I may have caused.
