Default Fuse 7 (BPM) on drivers side box

I finally got the car out of winter hibernation (this is the longest the car has ever sat), and the car has blown fuse 7, which, besides the interior lights, prevents the car from going out of park. Of course the override below the plug works to get the car out of the garage at least. It blew the fuse once before and i never found out why, so I thought I would be ok just swapping in a new fuse, but it blows it instantly when inserted (I can even see the arc), so it acts like there is a short somewhere. Any advice on where to look first? Where is the body processor module on these? I'm getting into JTIS now, but I haven't messed with the electrical on this car at all, so any assistance would be great.

Have the sun visors ever been removed & refitted?

Not to my knowledge, at least not in the 9 years I've had her.

Might still be worth checking the wiring to them as someone may have had the header rail apart to get at the latch & hoses?

There have been a few instances of problems with wires getting pinched and causing the issue you describe (and worse).

The BPM is somewhere behind the glove box (sorry I can't be any more specific).

My '97 had the same thing... blew #7 fuse the instant you put it in.....after checking everything I could.... I unpluged the two sunvisor plugs to the vanity lights and everything was fine again.

Can it really be that easy? It can. This forum never ceases to amaze me. I last pulled that center homelink/light panel probably 8 years ago when my electrochromic mirror failed and I had forgotten that I saw a little hydraulic fluid residue in there, so my latch hose probably has been replaced at some point. I pulled that panel again today and was reminded. After unhooking its wiring and the two vanity mirror light plugs, I changed the fuse...and it held! Plug in the drivers side...no problem...plug in the passangers side...POP. So not I just have to see what is shorting on that side (which can be a little lower priority and I can drive the car more, it's a pain to override the switch to put it in gear). I can't believe that I hadn't disturbed anything for years and that's where the problem is. I was fearing so many more expensive and difficult to troubleshoot areas. You guys are the greatest! I'll update again when I tear into it more and find the exact short, but for now, my wife will just have to go without a light on her side I needed to check out those visors anyway as the mirror covers are sagging, so I can do it all at once.

Westra,
Glad you found the problem, and that we could help.
