I reset this once but it came right back after a few days. The gas cap is about 3 years old. I found a post by H2OBoy and it talks about a canister pipe. Can anyone tell me where this pipe is locatged? Also, Is the CCV in the wheel well? Is it worth changing it out?
That message haunted me for 6 months. It turned out to be 2 things, a split in the "U" shaped hose that connects to the CCV valve, the split was under the clamp so not visible. I replaced that with a similar hose I found on the racks at my Carquest store. It got better after that, but still showed up occasionally. I then replaced the CCV valve and the problem has not showed up for 2 years. I know the attached picture is hard to figure out, but it is looking straight up above the rear axle on the right side. The hoses that go into the charcoal cannister.

My buddy has a 2005 XKR, on investigating his car we found that the battery vent hose was leaking onto the charcoal cannister and had eaten through the plastic. A dab of black silicone reset the light and it solved the issue.
When I worked on these cars at the dealer we always had to be aware of Recalls/Service Actions and TSBs.

I had the same problem on my 2000 xK8. After replacing the gas cap, o rings and hoses the problem persisted. I finally replaced the canister close valve and that did it. My evap emission system is behind the rear axle, I believe your car is the same. The CCV is located between the two canisters and there is an electrical connector for it. Pretty easy to get to. I believe what is located in the wheel well is a "purge" valve not the CCV.
